David Porter

Councillor

I have been born and raised in Eskdale and it is a place I am deeply connected to. I feel particularly lucky to have had an upbringing in the area so I wanted to give something back. For this reason I joined the parish council to help the valley and it’s community as best I could and to face the challenges modern life will bring.

Janice Harrington

Councillor

Hi, I am Janice Harrington and I have lived and worked in Eskdale all my life. I attended St Bega’s Primary School and also play an active part in the Eskdale Show Committee.

I became a Parish Councillor in January 2021 after seeing councillor spaces vacant. I believe it is important that we look after our Parish and it’s interests and try to keep Eskdale as a great place to live and work. I look forward to being a voice for the community.

Ian Kirby

Councillor

I am Ian Kirby and live in New Close in Eskdale Green.

For over 40 years I worked in all aspects of education and am a governor at St Begas School here in the village, chairing the premises sub committee. My reason for joining the parish council is that I truly believe in the council being a central and proactive part of our community.

Mark Shaftsley

Councillor

I joined Eskdale PC firstly as the Clerk which I did for several years and then I became a Councillor, which i’ve also done for several years; I joined as a way to become part of the community and offer my services if i could help in anyway. I moved to Eskdale 27 years ago not knowing a soul so it was a great way of meeting folk

Mark Shaftsley

Councillor & Vice Chair

I have been a member of the Parish Council for a number of years now initially as a Councillor, then Vice Chair and moving on to Chairman in May 2018. I moved to Eskdale with my wife in 2007 to run the Village shop. This enabled me quite quickly to get to know the people and events which go on in this small but diverse community. I joined the Council to help ensure the community continues to have a voice and ensure this small valley is not forgotten’.

Roger Brown

Councillor & Chair

Having spent most of my life in the Eskdale valley I took the opportunity to join the parish council after a lot of born and bred valley councillors retired. I wanted to stand up for the local farmers and valley traditions, as our heritage and pastimes come under increasing pressure from outside bodies.

I live and work with my family at Muncaster Head Farm and take an active part in valley life. From being heavily involved with the Eskdale show and the spring Shepherd’s meet, to helping when called upon at the village school. I am a firm believer in looking after the businesses in the valley and regularly frequent the local hostelries.
