DRAFT MINUTES OF THE ORDINARY MEETING OF THE PARISH COUNCIL HELD ON TUESDAY 14 8 SEPTEMBER 2026 AT St BEGA’S VILLAGE HALL, ESKDALE GREEN COMMENCING AT 7.30PM

In the absence of the Cllr Brown, Cllr Shaftesley took the Chair for the meeting.

45/26.1  Hard Knott Telephone Box

No issues.

45/26.2  Community Plan

Clerk to write to Cumberland Highways re extending the 30mph to Boot, to reduce the 30mph to 20mph within Eskdale village and to extend the gritting to Boot.

Defibs – Clerk to accrue monies to pay for replacement defibs donated by Fred Whitton event.

45/26.3  Environment

Clerk had received a quote for purchase of 2.  Resolved to purchase 3no planters with words “Welcome to Eskdale” one for each entrance to area.  Lengthsman has agreed to maintain them.

45/26.4  Japanese Garden

Clerk to chase for update.

45/26.5  Village Hall

Cllr Shaftesley reported that the Charity Commission have approved the new format.  The hall has now been redecorated.  The recent Heritage Weekend was well attended and there is a planned Caleigh for October.

46/26 To receive reports from representatives on outside bodies.

47/26 Correspondence

To discuss any correspondence received for open discussion.

A request from an ex-resident to replace an existing memorial bench with a new one.  Granted, requester has to purchase bench. Lengthsman will install.

48/26 Councillor Matters

Cllr Hunt stated she was impressed with the quick response to repair the broken stile which had been reported.

Cllr Shaftesley was concerned at the proposed total road closure in November.  Cllr Pratt attending a meeting with Cumberland Highways to discuss options.

49/26 The next meeting of the Parish Council 10 November 2026 at St Bega’s Village Hall, Eskdale Green commencing at 7.30pm

There being no other business the meeting closed at 2018 hours.
